Freedom of Impression

Our free speech is under assault and this time the muzzle is far more than a ridiculous and worthless Covid era face diaper. Everywhere one looks freedom of expression is suppressed. It’s so bad laws are on the books (and about to be) targeting completely ambiguous “hate speech” and gestures.

CorneredSpaceAlien notes few talk about what really matters which is Freedom of Impression. After all, expression has a purpose - an end goal to impress upon others ideas, values, facts, etc.

Why target the individual and his or her expression? Well, the answer is simple - demoralization. If those suppressing free speech can demonstrate they got to particular individuals and ruined their lives they’ve gone a long way toward deterrence and worse demoralization.
