On Scaled Authenticity

Fairly recently, CorneredSpaceAlien “attended” a Handwrytten webinar in which they presented the results of their 2,000 person survey. In the webinar, the lead product manager made a very interesting statement: “We scale authenticity.”

In the coming years, scaling authenticity will be the most valuable service any company can provide and Handwrytten should be commended for bringing this to the forefront. One need only consider that creepy feeling most of us get after a few hours on the InterWebs. We start to doubt the “like buttons” we see next to a post, we note the odd (often repeated) language used by many in comment sections, and inevitably we remind ourselves of our complete subjugation to algorithms. and AI is a whole new realm of Creeperville.

CorneredSpaceAlien has come to understand that Marketers have already raised the white flag vis a vis AI. It’s over and they have publicly stated as much. What remains for a Marketers role? You guessed it - Authenticity. They have no choice but to demonstrate authenticity, meaning demonstrating that real humans with genuine beliefs are behind messaging and other content.

Authenticity has always been number one in the eyes of consumers but this time it must be Real and demonstrable, not just a “we’re so cool, we’re authentic by default".” Those days are over.
